'Never say never': In-form Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham hints at switching allegiance to Nigeria

'Never say never': In-form Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham hints at switching allegiance to NigeriaIn-form Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has given Super Eagles a major boost by refusing to rule out switching his allegiance to Nigeria.  The 21-year-old who was born in the UK to Nigerian parents is currently the joint-leading scorer with Sergio Aguero in the Premier League, So far, the pair have seven goals each.  Despite representing England at Under 18, Under 19 and Under 21 levels Tammy is still eligible to play for the three-time African champions, through his Nigerian parents. Speaking on the situation, Abraham told Goal: 'Yes, I have heard the talk. I have not really been focused on that yet. 'I think when the time comes, the times comes. It is about focusing on Chelsea and hopefully scoring goals and getting victories. 'We never know. You can never say never, whatever comes first really. I just have to keep full focus on Chelsea.   The post 'Never say never': In-form Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham hints at switching allegiance to Nigeria appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Sad! 15-year-old boy commits suicide in Ghana because his parents couldn't afford to enroll him in high school

Sad! 15-year-old boycommits suicide in Ghana because his parents couldn'tafford to enroll him in high schoolA 15-year-old Junior High School graduate in Ghana identified as 'Isaac Arhin' has committed suicide after his parents took the decision to send him to learn a vocational skill because they can’t afford to enroll him in Senior High School.   It was reported that Isaac Arhin, popularly called Yaw, committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope in his room at Gomoa Asafo in the Agona East District. Narrating the story to Bryt FM, sister of Arhin revealed her late brother had an aggregate 20 in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and gained admission at Kwahu Tafo in the Eastern Region. His auntie however informed him that she is not financially stable to enroll him in SHS so he should learn a skill. That is what triggered the depression leading to his unfortunate death.“Yaw told me he got aggregate 20 and that, he has gotten a school at Kwahu Tafo but his aunt wanted him to learn a skill instead of continuing his education because she is not financially sound to support his education.  “I told him, his mother had gone to Volta and that, he should exercise patience for her to return so we could deal with the issue, as I am also not in a position to support his education due to my poor health condition.“He left the house about 6 am in the morning without informing me, so I called to find out where he has been after complaining earlier of being hungry. He told me he had gone to my aunt’s place at Nsuaem.“Unfortunately, I returned home to find out that he had locked the door to our room so I called him severally without any response. I then decided to look through the window with the help of a neighbour and unfortunately, I saw him hanged to death with a rope” she told the reporter.According to Ghpage.com, the police has launched an investigation into his death. The post Sad! 15-year-old boycommits suicide in Ghana because his parents couldn'tafford to enroll him in high school appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Again, Omoyele Sowore seeks bail in fresh court application

OmoyeleSowore seeks bail in fresh court applicationOmoyele Sowore, Convener of #RevolutionNow protest, who is being held by the Department of State Services, has asked for bail in liberal terms in a fresh application filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja. Sowore filed the fresh application on Friday, September 13th after his failed bid to have the court hear his earlier one challenging the detention order issued against him by Justice Taiwo Taiwo on July 8, 2019.The affidavit he filed in support of the application stated in part, “That the applicant (Sowore) herein has never been charged with any criminal offence whatsoever. That the Nigeria police also conducted investigation on the matter and made its findings public.  “That the persons who participated in the protests of August 5, 2019, were charged with the offence of unlawful assembly at the Magistrates’ Court in Ebute Meta, Lagos State, Osogbo in Osun State and Calabar(Cross River). That on August 9, 2019, the applicant filed an application to set aside, discharge and/or vacate the said ex parte order permitting his detention for 45 days.”The security agency had accused Sowore, the SaharaReporters publisher and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the last February 2019 poll, of planning to topple the President Muhammadu Buhari government, through the protest.   Sowore denied the coup allegations insisting that he only mobilised Nigerians to protest against bad governance and other vices. Following an ex parte application by the DSS, Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the same Abuja division of the Federal High Court, on August 8, issued a detention order permitting the security agency to hold the activist for 45 days to enable it to conclude investigations.   On August 9, 2018, Sowore, through his lead counsel, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), filed a motion challenging the detention order. But the efforts of his team of lawyers to make the court to hear the application which was filed over a month ago, have yet to yield any result.  In his fresh application which he filed on Friday, Sowore’s lawyers argued that the DSS had completed its investigations, adding that by Section 28 (4) of the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act, 2013 “a person detained pursuant to Section 27 (1) can be admitted to bail by this honourable court.” One of his lawyers, Marshal Abubakar, who deposed to the affidavit filed in support of the application, prayed the court grant bail to Sowore in liberal terms. He added that the activist had responsible persons who could stand as sureties for him.  The supporting affidavit read in part,“That no criminal charge whatsoever has been brought against the applicant herein. That the applicant undertakes not to interfere with the investigation of this case or make contacts with the witnesses of the respondent.”The post Again, OmoyeleSowore seeks bail in fresh court application appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
