Man Utd press ahead with signing of Aston Villa star

Manchester United will press ahead with the signing of Aston Villa star Jack Grealish this summer, claims a report.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been tracking the 24-year-old for 18 months and has now decided to give the green light for a move despite the player’s recent indiscretions.

The England hopeful was fined £150,000 by Villa in March and forced to apologise after attending a friend’s late-night house party, crashing his motor, and breaking coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

But Solskjaer has conducted detailed background checks and, according to The Sun “only heard good things about Grealish, his character and what he would bring to Old Trafford”.

Villa do not want to lose Grealish but they are aware of the player’s desire to play at elite level and £70million will be enough to sign the Villa skipper. However, if the club were to be relegated there is a feeling at Old Trafford that £50million would be enough to get Grealish on board.

Grealish has been in superb form this season with seven goals and six assists in 26 Premier League starts, as he tries to keep his boyhood club in the Premier League.

But despite United’s determination, Gabriel Agbonlahor reckons Grealish will stay loyal to his hometown team and says he will reject the chance to join United purely for his love of the Villans.

“I think he will stay,” the former Villa striker told the Claret & Blue podcast, as relayed by the Manchester Evening News.

“I know everyone’s 50/50 but I think he will because the club’s built around him.

“Villa will stay up and the club will be built around him again.”
